Barkatjee, as he was fondly called, was a legendary poet that India has ever produced in recent times. His contribution to Punjabi literature has been outstanding. One of the most famous literary works he did in his lifetime was translation of Bhagvat Gita (written in Urdu script) to Punjabi.
His dynamic personality and down to earth nature was an inspiration to many poets of the modern era. His influence is not only confined to India, but also reached out to the United Kingdom and Canada where he has many followers even today.
This web site is an attempt to keep Barkatjee alive by highlighting his life and work, and his contribution to the society as an eminent freedom fighter and as People’s Poet.
We, the grandsons and granddaughters of Papajee (that we fondly called him), will develop and build this space to showcase his life and work in an attempt to keep him immortal and to earn him a place in the literary world that he always deserved.
This is a humble attempt to pay our tribute to this great man who has influenced us so much. |
